Keep your cake topper in the zip lock packaging until you are ready to use it.  Keep away from extreme temperatures or humidity.

Your cake topper will stay fresh in its packaging for up to 6 months, so great for planning ahead!

Have a plain iced cake ready.  Any type of cake is fine, sponge, fruit, chocolate, carrot... Cake Toppers work with almost any type of cake icing/frosting including buttercream, glace icing and fondant icing (click here for icing/frosting recipe suggestions).  Fresh cream and other non-dairy products are not recommended due to their high water content.   Any coloured icing can be used but darker colours may affect the quality of your cake topper image.

Now time to apply the cake topper.

DEMO 1Step 1.
Apply a small mist of water to the icing with a basting brush. Ensure your hands are completely dry and remove icing sheet from zip lock bag.

DEMO 2Step 2 FREEZER METHOD. Place topper in freezer for 3-5 minutes to harden.  Remove from freezer and carefully remove the backing sheeting by holding the topper in one hand on the edge of a table and easing the backing sheet down and away.  View here

Step 2. Alternative HEAT METHOD.
Preheat the oven at 30degrees Celcius or lowest temperature.  Place topper on a baking tray in the middle of the oven for 8-10 minutes. View here

DO NOT PULL OR TEAR THE BACKING SHEET.
If you encounter any difficulties removing the backing sheet or the icing sheet starts to soften, place in freezer again for a couple of minutes.

DEMO 3Step 3. Lay topper on cake by holding with both hands and placing the middle of the topper on the cake first and then the edges.
If any bubbles or wrinkles appear, gentle PAT them with your fingers.
DO NOT RUB AS THIS CAN DAMAGE THE IMAGE.
Some toppers are not pre-cut. If necessary trim icing sheet to fit.

DEMO 4Step 4. The icing topper has now melded with the icing/fondant.

DEMO 5Step 5. Add desired borders/decorations.

DEMO 6Step 6. Enjoy your Something Cakey Personalised Cake
